ITEC LEVEL 3 SPORTS MASSAGE DIPLOMA

Sports massage is an excellent internatonally recognised qualification for
massage therapists who wish to work alongside the sports industry. This
course is for existing therapists who wish not only to to provide treatments for
sports injuries and improve sporting performance but to successfully
treat numerous "every day musculoskeletal injuries"
Tutor: Gail Lowe is a qualified nurse and remedial therapist with over twenty four years clinical experience.
She has worked with the medical profession, osteopaths and chiropractors and has maintained "many Olympic athletes" at peak performeance
during her varied career. Derek lowe has studied sports massage to BTEC level 5 level and specialises in Soft tissue release and
Muscle Energy Techniques. All students will benefit from their vast experience in a relaxed, fun, but professional atmosphere.
Practical Includes:
- Neuromuscular Techniques - NMT
- Soft Tissue Release - STR
- Trigger Points
- Muscle Energy Technique - MET
- Connective Tissue Release - CTM
- Pre-event: Post event Treatments
- Proprioreceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation - PNF
Theory Includes:
- Muscle actions, insertions and origins
- Common Sports injuries
- Treatment of injuries
- Diagnosis and physical assessment
- Aerobic System, anaerobic glycolysis
- Effects and benefits of Sports on muscles
- Anatomy and Physiology of Musculoskeletal Joints
Examinations Consists of:
- Theory examination: One hour, 50 multiple choice questions
- Practical examination: One hour
- Examination - 10 minutes
- Treatment of allocated injury - 30 minutes
- Pre- event treatment - 5 minutes
- Post event treatment - 5 minutes
- 10 minutes homecare advice, including stretching; relaxation; diet, excercise and thermotherapy
- Case studies
- 5 people x 3 treatments = 15 in all (although it is recommended that you do at least 2 practice treatments on each area of the body to be prepared for the examinati

- 2 folders for course work including dividers and plastic wallets
- Loose comfortable clothing for theory
- White or black tunic uniform for theory ( please note; students without professional uniforms will not be permitted to attend practical sessions)
- Course book (There is no set book for this course but it is recommended by the tutors that: Lars Peterson's Sports Injuries is excellent background reading and The Trail Guide to the body is one of the best muscle books on the market.l Download BookList
